This is the highest waterfall on Mauritius and it plunges more than 85 meters down against an awe-inspiring backdrop of lush green forests and jagged grey mountains. There are of course many waterfalls on the islands but this is by far our favourite if only for the sheer grandeur of the sight. It’s quite pleasant to take a walk by the banks of the St. Denis River, from where to waterfall falls and as you get closer to the falls you’ll note that the sounds of the water rise into a roaring crescendo as you find yourself looking down to the gorge below. There are also wild monkeys in the area – so be careful of your belongings as they have been known to be a little playful. Close to the falls are the Black River Gorges National Park and the beautiful, almost alien-like terrains of the Seven Coloured Earth – which is an intriguing collection of brightly coloured sand dunes.
