Emirati cuisine is a fairly recognisable blend of many Middle Eastern and Asian flavours, with similarities to Palestinian and Levant cuisines. But today, the UAE’s diet is a modern mix of international dishes and flavours, taking in everything from European to Far East Asian influences. Stews are common with core ingredients such as saffron, cardamom and turmeric, as well as rice, camel meat (mostly reserved for special occasions) and desserts such as semolina with crushed dates, and of course delicious Arabic coffee. Kebabs are common street food staples while flatbreads are both delicious and endlessly popular throughout Abu Dhabi.
