Panama Travel Guide: Explore Cities & Culture

Panama is a true melting pot of cultures and contrasts, perched as a narrow snake-like isthmus connecting north and south America - between the Caribbean and Pacific oceans. We suggest starting your holiday in the very centre of the country, in Panama City. Start by exploring the pretty, colourful colonial buildings of the old town and then the bustling towers and skyscrapers of the banking district. Afterwards move on to the monumental Panama Canal and take a boat north to Colón to spend a few days exploring the Caribbean coastline and the many Spanish ruins that dot the area - though there’s very little to see in the seaside city other than evidence of the social inequality between Panama City and the rest of the county, and the Atlantic entrance to the canal. If you’re
intrigued then head north to Portobelo to see another historic town and its ruins that’s been left behind by the modernity of Panama City.
