Russia Etiquette

Russia Etiquette

Russia is on the surface every bit as modern and cosmopolitan as any other northern European country, with fashion in cities such as Moscow and Saint Petersburg as outrageous and as daring as London and Paris. However, Russians take their religion very seriously, so be sure to dress conservatively and cover up your shoulders and hair (if you’re a woman) when entering a church. Women may also be asked to wear a skirt to enter some churches – and if so, wraps will be available at the door. If you’re visiting the opera – bring your very best clothes as anything less could result in you being turned away.

When it comes to eating dinner don’t be shy to drink a little Vodka. It’s common for toasts to go on for minutes at a time, with vodka shot after vodka shot imbibed along with blinis topped with caviar, and it would be rude, though not unforgivable to say no.
