Frozen Wonder

Experience massive ice formations nature

Perito Moreno Glacier

Located just 80 km west of El Calafate, the Perito Moreno Glacier is one of the most awe-inspiring things to see in Argentina. As one of the world’s few advancing glaciers, it carves its way into the turquoise waters of Lago Argentino, creating an unforgettable spectacle of ice and sound.

From time to time, the glacier advances far enough to block the Brazo Rico arm of the lake, causing water levels to rise until the pressure bursts through in a dramatic collapse. Though this natural event is rare and unpredictable—with just 15 occurrences recorded between 1917 and 1988—daily ice calving is a common and thrilling sight. Massive chunks of ice break off the glacier’s face, crash into the lake, and drift through the Canal de los Tempanos (Iceberg Channel).

Your journey begins with a scenic drive along the shores of Lago Argentino, leading to Brazo Rico—the narrow channel where the glacier almost meets the land. From here, you'll have panoramic views and time to explore walking paths that offer stunning angles of the glacier and iceberg-dotted waters.

Next, you'll board a boat for a close-up view of the glacier’s towering ice wall. One of the most exciting things to do in Argentina, this boat ride brings you face-to-face with the calving front of Perito Moreno. After docking near the glacier, you have the option to join a mini-trekking adventure. Equipped with crampons and guided by professionals, you’ll step onto the glacier itself—a once-in-a-lifetime experience. (Please note: participants must be under 65 for the trekking portion.)

After your trek, you’ll visit the viewing balconies where you can relax and watch the glacier's dynamic activity unfold—an extraordinary way to end one of the most iconic things to see in Argentina.
