Where can you find true 19th-century rail engineering?
The railway was built between 1886 and 1891 and has restored vintage carriages of timber. The train winds its way along steep mountain cliffs, passing through 15 hand-carved tunnels, around 98 bends and over dozens of historic bridges spanning deep river canyons.

The tracks run through Barron Gorge National Park, with ancient rainforest trees lining the railway. At the Barron Falls lookout, we stop for a ten-minute photo break to take in views of water pouring down into deep granite ravines below.
