The cuisine in Canada is a homely mishmash of European influences, seafood and local ingredients. Lobster is often served simply with a bib blob of melted butter in the Atlantic provinces, while Poutine is the perfect winter dish of potatoes soaked in gravy and cheese curds, and you’ll find real Canadian favourites such as Maple Syrup and Peameal bacon all over the country.
Vancouver is well known as a foodie city, so expect everything from seasonal prawns, late summer tomatoes, huge cuts of local steak and every international delicacy that you can think of. But if you only try one thing in Vancouver then make sure it’s the West Coast Seafood – whether that be mussels and oysters or wild salmon and Dungeness crab – all of which are delicious.
