Hawaii - Etiquette
The etiquette of Hawaii can be slightly surprising for first time visitors but think of it as somewhere between generic American manners and Asian sensibilities, and you should be just fine. If youβre invited into a home for example, remember to remove your shoes - as one would in Japan.
Just like on the mainland of the USA, tipping is expected and thoroughly ingrained into the culture - especially within the hospitality industries. As a guideline, itβs customary to tip approximately 15-20% on the total bill before tax, or a little less or more if you receive poor or exceptional service, while for taxis 10% is fine.
