Summit Adventure

Conquer Machu Picchu's iconic peak

Huayna Picchu Climb: The Iconic Machu Picchu Summit

Huayna Picchu is one of the most famous and thrilling climbs in Peru. It’s a chance to scale the giant green mountain above the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu. The Quechua name of this dramatic mountain is Wayna Pikchu (“Young Peak”), and it rises more than 2,600 meters above sea level. The reward for scaling its steep slopes is an unforgettable view of the Andean mountains all around, cascading cloud forests and sprawling stone ruins below.

The journey starts in the ancient sanctuary of Machu Picchu, in the Cusco region of southern Peru. Before they reach the official checkpoint—where park rangers count the numbers on the daily permit—hikers walk through fields of terraces. The trail immediately takes the climber up ancient Inca staircases carved into sheer granite cliff walls. Higher up, beware of narrow stone paths and steep slopes, but the views of the valley of the Urubamba River slicing through misty mountains become more and more spectacular at every turn.

Key Highlights And Climbing Experience
