Iceland Etiquette

Iceland is a very similar to countries such as Norway, Sweden and Denmark and has very little in the way of culturally accepted norms that wouldn’t be acceptable in mainland Europe, though you will find that most Icelanders are quite open minded and perhaps a little more direct than in more conservative countries. One standout quirk is that Icelanders more often than not remove their shoes when indoors so it can be helpful to take along a pair of slippers or flip flops when visiting a house. If you plan on plunging into one of the country’s many, many hot springs then be sure to observe the proper hygiene rules - which is to shower and wash thoroughly directly before changing into a swim suit and jumping in.
