Indonesia cuisine
The great problem with travel in Asia - is that the food, no matter where you go, is always fantastic - and there is so much to try that you could spend your entire holiday doing just that. Indonesian cuisine is one of the most diverse of all - with popular dishes like Nasi Goreng, gado-gado, sate and soto being some of the country’s most popular national dishes. Sumatran cuisine has influences from Middle Eastern and Indian dishes, while Javanese cuisine has a hint of Chinese influence. There are even some Dutch influences in the cuisine - most notably in dishes like roti bakar (grilled bread) and bistik jawa (Javanese beef steak). If you have the opportunity to attend a feast then look out for the cone shaped piles of Tumpeng rice which is generally surrounded by an assortment of dishes like fried prawns and chicken, semur (beef in sweet soy sauce) and perkedel kentang (mashed potato fritters).
