West Coast Etiquette
Much like the rest of the USA, etiquette on the West Coast is similar, if not the same, as the rest of the English-speaking world. Californians are perhaps well known for being a little more laid back than in other areas. Smoking isn’t very popular in California at all - and is banned in both enclosed and public spaces - with very few exceptions. Tipping is a regular day-to-day thing throughout the USA - especially within the hospitality industry. As a guideline, it’s customary to tip approximately 15-20% on the total bill before tax, or a little less or more if you receive poor or exceptional service, while for taxis, 10% is fine.
